Today I would like to discuss, with a slight delay, a film dedicated to Pripyat and the Chernobyl accident in general. It seems to me that the theme of Chernobyl is incredibly fertile ground for horror films. An empty city that hides its secrets that outsiders don’t have to wish for.And Bradley Parker took advantage of this and already in May 2012 the horror film “Forbidden Zone” was released. When watching the film, I often remembered another horror film, “The Mystery of the Dyatlov Pass,” which, although it came out later, I watched it earlier. Therefore, I will often draw analogies with this film.
At first I thought that the film would be made in the style of “Pseudo-documentary (The Blair Witch Project, Repostage, Monstro)”, but fortunately the film came to its senses and abandoned this style.
The story tells about a company of https://hunnyplaycasino.co.uk/withdrawal/ Americans who travel around the world and arriving in Ukraine, after much persuasion on the part of one of them, they decide to go to Pripyat on an excursion. Naturally, this is not an official excursion and they secretly end up in Pripyat. At first, the film scares with banal “BOO” moments, which are very popular nowadays, although they are the most primitive type of intimidation (I would like to note that The Dyatlov Mystery does not particularly use this method, which is a plus for the film).
And so they intimidate us with “BU” moments, after which terrible confusion begins. The “tour guide” is kidnapped, one of the heroes is wounded, and in general something is not right here. The acting of the male half of the film was terribly annoying, but Dmitry Dyachenko looked very confident in the role of the stocky military man. The characters in the film themselves behaved like hysterics, especially the men. Even women who seemed to be more timid behaved more calmly.Familiar places are pleasing; those who at least don’t know much about Pripyat, or have at least once played Stalker, will immediately notice familiar places.
Even though the film often uses “BU”, it still had a couple of scary moments that escalated the situation and if there were more of them, the film would have been much better.
In the Secret of Dyatlov (from now on T.D.) there was no horror as such, and if the film had not positioned itself as a horror film, then it would have been a quite suitable thriller, approximately 80% of the film does not scare us, but the remaining 20% are hot. V T.D. I liked the plot. I definitely didn’t expect this plot twist.
In the Forbidden Zone (by the way, in the foreign translation the film was called “Chernobyl Diaries”, but Russia can translate) already halfway through the film they begin to primitively scare us. The denouement of the film is poor, it leaves many questions (Although in T.D. there were plenty of them too).I was also terribly irritated by the logic of G.G.
And also the very effect of radiation on people, in the film it had a strange effect on them, at least according to life safety they didn’t tell us that.
Bottom line: both films were not made by compatriots, but at the same time they take place either in Russia or in Ukraine.
And which of these films is better to watch??
Z.Z. atmospheric film and about 93% of the film was not bad at all, but the ending ruined everything.
T.D. on the contrary, about 70-80% of the film is not scary, but at the end it gives heat.
In general, I still recommend T.D. because it turned out much better and more interesting, and the ending pleased me personally.
In general, watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 or The Exorcist, they will be much scarier.
Thank you for your attention!
